Fred Perry, a British brand rooted in sports, specifically tennis, has been around since the 1950s, with one of the most recognizable logos ever made, cherished by fashion elites, rockstars, and the everyman. Although created for the athlete, they have been part of the British subculture since they started and has been adopted by every generation, which makes sense for them to host an event highlighting musicians from different genres. The Subculture series started in 2015, but they started their first series in Cebu last November of 2016 and now, they are back with another eclectic mix of artists for this years’ event.
Catch Fred Perry’s #SubcultureLive Cebu this 08 SEP (FRI) – 21:00 ~ On at Draft Punk: Brewers & Skewers. Featuring Cebuano artists Honeydrop, Marcelo 憂い, Carlisle + A E L A, Mandaue Nights, and H A U L. Free entry, free drinks, and of course, feel free to dance the night away. Visit their Facebook event page here, and check out the poster below for more details.

Cebu-based band Honeydrop releases their newest EP ‘SIGNS’ this June 2, 2017 in Route 196, QC. This album launch party is presented by Indie Manila and also features top-billed Manila acts Ang Bandang Shirley, Tom’s Story, and Farewell Fair Weather. Show opens at 8:00 pm and door fee is at P250.
Honeydrop has been making waves in the music scene with their unpredictable brand of indie rock. Their second album is an EP comprised of five tracks including the recent singles “Set Apart” and “Once”. This much-awaited release is teeming with new experimental tunes accentuating their math rock influences. Nearly four years after their debut album “Prelude” in 2013, Honeydrop is yet again ready to distill saccharine songs, this time to a bigger audience in Manila.
Other than its music, “Signs” has been gaining a following in the local art community – even before its official release. The album cover art is by renowned graphic designer PJ Ong of Inodoro Designs. The limited edition cd packaging design is an analog hologram that becomes a 2D animation under an acetate film. The whole album experience is not only a sound trip but also a visual feat.
Honeydrop is composed of Debb Acebu (vocals), Karl Lucente (lead guitar), Tram Florido (guitar), Jud Sala (bass), and Jeriel Larano (drums).
Their new release is under Cebu record label Bomba Press and ready for sale at the event and can be ordered online via bombapress.ecwid.com. The album is also available for download on Bandcamp.

Goosebumps. That’s the first thing I felt when I heard the song ‘I Know You Do’ by local indie-folk singer Vincent Eco. It’s an emotionally-charged track that anyone who’s been in a relationship can relate to. It’s a masterful song, produced and arranged perfectly which sets the bar high for Vincent. The singer-songwriter who is under 22Tango Records is one of the most-promising local artists and has the potential to reach a national, even global audience through his excellent music. Amidst the emergence of electronic and rap/trap music in the local scene, it’s refreshing to hear the sound of indie-folk music, especially something of this caliber. This just goes to show the diversity of talent and music we have in Cebu which we should keep cultivating and appreciating. We are looking forward to hear more songs and maybe even a full EP from Vincent Eco soon.
Check out the fitting music video below, which was produced & directed by 22 Tango Street Team & Martin Tabañag, featuring the dance performance of Monica Villarica. Find out more about Vincent Eco in his Facebook page.
